My flight was one from hell. It really was not anybody's fault, but unfortunately I had a migraine on my flight. As a migraine patient, every time I do something exciting, I fear getting a migraine. Honestly, it is a miracle that the last time I got a migraine on a plane was 15 years ago. In any case, this time I was not so lucky and I spent 8 hours feeling horrible, getting sick, unable to sleep through my night-flight. By the time I arrived in Bangkok, it was 10:00 AM and I felt horrible.
Luckily, I felt better after sitting around a little bit at the airport. I must say that I am very happy to have read some travel blogs prior to my trip, so I knew exactly where to go to get the best exchange rate, SIM card and such. After having arranged all this, I had to decide if I wanted to go to my hostel by taxi or by bus. I was extremely nauseous still, so I weighed my options carefully. 1. A taxi was almost 10 times more expensive than the bus and 2. A taxi driver was likely to talk to me. The only benefit to taking the taxi was that I did not need to worry about arriving at my hostel without getting lost. However, I so did not feel like haggling about the price (/the turning on of the meter) and talking as I could hardly look straight without getting sick, so I decided to take the bus. It actually really wasn't too bad. I fell asleep almost instantly and woke up 30/40 minutes later when we had our fist stop. I did not know exactly where to get off, but I had my Google Maps with me. At some point we were within 10 minutes walking distance of my hostel so I got off on the next stop. I found the hostel really easily, so I was very happy about that. :)
As soon as I was a in the hostel, I felt a bit better but I still felt like sleeping. Normally, I would try to fight the jet lag but with a migraine, all you can do is sleep. I slept for two hours and felt less nauseous, so I decided to walk around the neighborhood for a bit. When finally I felt a bit hungrier, I got myself an ice cream at McDonalds, only to regret it. I immediately got super nauseous again, so I decided to walk back to the hostel to sleep again. I slept for a few hours, woke up, still not hungry. In the end, I decided to just watch a movie. The whole evening consisted of being awake/asleep until 23:00 when I decided to turn in.
This morning I woke up at 9:30 and I got myself some breakfast at the hostel. I had only booked the breakfast two days ago (I had booked the hostel a month ago) and for some reason it did not show up on the computer. The price I have to pay is including breakfast, but still, the computer said that that price was without breakfast. It took some convincing that I had actually added it and that the price had gotten up 600 baht after that. In the end, though, they said it was okay, but I still have to see about that.
So, now I have to figure out what to do with my day. I did already book a food tour for tonight, so I am glad to do that. I think that otherwise, I will just walk around the city for a bit more than I did yesterday. I still feel very tired so I will take it easy. Tomorrow I plan on seeing the grand palace and Wat Pho (reclining Buddha) and on Monday I plan on seeing Ayutthaya (ruins and temples).
Lots of love,
Demi.
